Ten years later, Handler died in 1989 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Handler's dad is Jewish and she was raised to Reform Judaism. Handler had a happy and healthy childhood growing up in an affluent community. At the age of 19, she made the move into Los Angeles, California to make a career out of acting. Handler was an actor to help support herself. Handler aged at the age of 21 was able to decide to concentrate on stand-up comedy full-time once she discovered her ability to tell stories. Handler's professional career started as part of a female-only Oxygen Television cast in an episode called Girls Behaving Badly. The show had a practical satire and concealed cameras. Between 2002 and 2005, this show was shown on television. Handler was a part of several other programs which included Weekends at D.L. The Bernie Mac Show The Practice as well as My Wife and Kids. Handler was also the correspondent of The Tonight Show. Handler gained notoriety in 2006 when she hosted her E! show. Chelsea Handler's Show.
